Escape to Rottnest Island: A Full Day Sailing Adventure
Secluded Bays and Close Encounters Await!
Spend a day exploring the stunning waters of Rottnest Island by luxury sailing catamaran. This full-day Rottnest Island tour isn’t your average island hop; it’s an exclusive full day sailing experience offering a unique perspective of the island’s natural beauty.
Immerse yourself in turquoise waters as you explore coral reefs teeming with marine life. Keep your eyes peeled for playful dolphins or curious sea lions!* Test your paddling skills on the kayaks or SUP, or simply kick back and relax on the spacious trampolines as you soak in all that fresh ocean air.
To complete your memorable day, get ready to feel the ocean spray as we raise the sails for our return journey to Fremantle, powered by the famous “Freo Doctor” trade winds. Want to get involved? Lend a hand with raising or lowering the sails – it’s a great chance to experience sailing firsthand!
This small group tour, limited to 24 guests, ensures a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for lifelong memories to be made and new friendships formed.
Let our friendly crew guide you on a journey of discovery, revealing the wonders of Rottnest Island’s coastline by sailboat. A buffet lunch and a morning tea are included, along with your marine park fee and snorkeling equipment. Prescription masks are also available for hire.
Please ensure you have read “The Fine Print” information tab before booking. Note: this is a fully water-based tour departing from and returning to Fremantle – it does not disembark at the island. For this, we recommend booking the “Snorkel & Sail” which departs from Rottnest Island (Nov-Apr, Mon-Thur).

- If minimum numbers are not reached we will reschedule you to another date, or provide you with a full refund.
Passenger Conduct, Fitness & Safety
- There will be other guests on the boat with you. We generally operate with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 24.
- BYO is permitted providing it is consumed in moderation. Spirits are not to be brought onboard. We also ask that all guests refrain from drinking until after water based activities (e.g. snorkeling).
- Tour travels across open water. It requires a moderate degree of mobility for safe boarding and moving around the vessel whilst underway. It also requires the use of stairs. If you have any health concerns please contact us prior to booking.
- Pregnant guests in their third trimester should contact us prior to booking.
- If you are prone to seasickness, please consider if this tour is right for you. Catamarans are generally very stable however this is an ocean-going experience. We advise you to consult a pharmacist if you have any concerns.
- Intoxicated guests will not be allowed to board and no refunds will be given.
- This is a non smoking tour.
Children On Board:
- Although we do aim to be as inclusive at possible for all ages, this tour is recommended for ages 5 and up, due to the distance required to travel through open water. The journey can be quite unpleasant for small children and may in some conditions pose a safety risk. For children under 5 we recommend our Snorkel & Sail tour as it departs from Rottnest Island directly, requiring no open water crossings.
- Children aged under 10 may be asked to wear a life jacket at all times.
- Guests aged 15-18 without a parent will require written permission from Charter 1 in advance.
- If you are booking a child ticket, please advise the ages of your children so that adequate life jacket provisions can be made in advance.
Dietary Requirements & Allergies
- We offer a range of food options that caters to most tastes (variety of meats, salads, cheese, breads, fruit, cakes and coffee/teas), however if you have specific food preferences you are welcome to bring your own.
- Whilst we try to be as broad as possible, however we are unable to cater to individual needs.
- Our menu is mostly allergy-friendly, however please advise us in advance of any serious allergies (i.e. anaphylaxis) that we should be aware of so that we can prepare food with this in mind.
Weather
- Remember, sailing is an outdoor activity and can at times get a little wet and windy. Perfect conditions are not guaranteed.
- We reserve the right to cancel right up until the departure time if conditions are deemed unsafe.
- The final decision is at the discretion of the skipper who takes all conditions into account on the day (wind speed, swell etc).
- We take no responsibility for late cancellations impacting any other plans you make (e.g. hotel bookings). These are booked at your own risk. We always try to give you as much notice as (reliable) forecasts will allow us.
Reschedules / Refunds

This tour departs from Fremantle
History Of the city
The port city of Fremantle lies on a series of limestone hills at the mouth of the Swan River, approximately 25 minutes from Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Many of the city’s most impressive heritage buildings are built from the pale-coloured local limestone. Central Fremantle is bounded to the north and east by the lower reaches of the Swan River and to the west by the Indian Ocean with stunning stretches of beach to the north of the city and to the south. Fremantle is a major port for Western Australia and Fremantle Harbour is the entrance point for the many container ships, cruise ships, ferries and leisure craft that berth at the port in the Inner Harbour. Smaller leisure craft and ferries travel the 20 km’s up the Swan River to Perth.

- Liz B18/10/2019Excellent boat and crew - would highly recommend for an amazing day out on the water!! Have been on this boat twice - once for a private day charter to Rottnest and the other for a sunset sail to Carnac Island. Both were fabulous fun days where you really get to experience the beauty of Perth from the water. The boat is a great size for a group gathering and the owners are passionate and professional. I have been on a lot of different charter boats out of Fremantle but this one is an extra special experience being a catamaran. No hesitation in recommending Charter 1 to anyone.read moreread less×Liz B18/10/2019Excellent boat and crew - would highly recommend for an amazing day out on the water!! The staff are not only professional but are also very friendly - their deckhand took an amazing photo of my husband and I with the sunset in the background. We loved our sunset sail so much the we followed up with a sail over to Rottnest. - Hayley Baldwin04/05/2019I was lucky enough to win a sunset cruise in Charter 1's recent competition! I invited 17 friends on board and we had a beautiful evening watching the sun go down over the ocean. The boat is awesome and I'd love to do the Rottnest cruise in summer so that we can use the stand-up paddle boards, and sunbathe on the trampolines.read moreread less×Hayley Baldwin04/05/2019I was lucky enough to win a sunset cruise in Charter 1's recent competition! Jules and Andrew were excellent hosts, very professional and put a couple of the apprehensive participants at ease. The boat itself is very cool and a lot of fun. And the food and drinks laid on by Jules was all very enjoyable. Definitely planning to return again one day. - Damien J29/12/2018Sailing towards the Sunset with my Wife whilst sipping on complementary wine, snacking on canopies and feeling the sea breeze on your face are the things dreams are made of. This 2 hour cruise was perfect for a birthday gift. The crew were incredibly friendly and accommodating of requests. BYO was a bonus and the freedom to move around the catamaran was great. Would recommend this to locals and visitors as a must do. Would love to take a day trip to Rotto or Carnac. Thank you Capella and crew. Through their local knowledge Erin and Jules took us to some beautiful spots for snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding and sunsets. We were able to explore remote beaches that we couldn't have gotten to without a boat, which made it that extra special for us. The accommodation on Capella was very comfortable and spacious and suited us and our two young kids perfectly. This sailing trip was an amazing experience for all of us and also such a special birthday for me. I was so happy that we as a family could spend that time together and all have such a great time. We were able to do activities that the whole family enjoyed and Jules and Erin made it so easy for the kids on board. There was plenty of things for them on and off the boat to explore and learn about. They really took the time to make it a special experience for the kids too. It was definitely the best birthday celebration I've ever had and such a memorable experience for our whole family.
