Escape to Rottnest Island: A Full Day Sailing Adventure

Secluded Bays and Close Encounters Await!

Spend a full day exploring the waters of Rottnest Island aboard Capella, our 12.5m sailing catamaran. This isn’t your average Rottnest Island day trip — it’s a proper full day sailing adventure, and a very different way to experience the island’s natural beauty.

The morning crossing sets the tone for the day. Open ocean, nothing but blue water around you — no emails, no errands, nowhere else to be. Just the quiet hum of the engines, fresh air, and the chance to stop and relax before you hit the water exploring.

Once there, we’ll make two stops around the island (weather permitting), moving with the wind as it shifts through the day. Morning tea at the first, lunch at the second — both served on board while you’re anchored in some of the most idyllic blue waters in Australia. There’s snorkel trails, dolphins, rays and sea lions to keep watch for, 2 kayaks and a SUP to get out on, or the bow trampolines if you’d rather just take it all in.

The final part of this Rottnest Island adventure ends with the famous “Freo Doctor” filling the sails for our return leg back to Fremantle. Get involved by raising or winching in the sails. Or if you’d rather, snooze on the comfortable indoor lounge as we take you back to shore. Camera full, soul refreshed.

Capped at 24 guests on a vessel licensed for 37, it’s a small group experience by any measure — relaxed, unhurried, and with plenty of room on board.

BYO drinks are welcome. A cold beer or a favourite wine goes well with a day like this — we’ll have ice on board.

Buffet lunch and morning tea included, along with your marine park fee and snorkelling equipment. Prescription masks available for hire.

Duration: 8 hours | Departs: Fremantle 8am, returns approx. 4pm | Age guide: 8+ — open ocean, sailing vessel, some movement should be expected. Not recommended for young children or those prone to seasickness.

Fully water-based — does not disembark at the island. To explore on foot, see our Snorkel & Sail departing from Rottnest Island (Nov–Apr, Mon–Thu) and combine with a return ferry transfer.

History Of the city

The port city of Fremantle lies on a series of limestone hills at the mouth of the Swan River, approximately 25 minutes from Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Many of the city’s most impressive heritage buildings are built from the pale-coloured local limestone. Central Fremantle is bounded to the north and east by the lower reaches of the Swan River and to the west by the Indian Ocean with stunning stretches of beach to the north of the city and to the south. Fremantle is a major port for Western Australia and Fremantle Harbour is the entrance point for the many container ships, cruise ships, ferries and leisure craft that berth at the port in the Inner Harbour. Smaller leisure craft and ferries travel the 20 km’s up the Swan River to Perth.
