School Excursions

From primary to high school, from sailing to snorkelling – Capella has something to offer all age groups.

Bring the class on board for a day of fun! For the lower ages we can offer interactive snorkelling and beach combing days – with out unique forward extendable ladder which can drop everyone right on the beach – as well as leadership and team building exercises for the older kids. We can hold 38 passengers for day trips and for extended stays we sleep 10 passengers overnight. Capella takes around 1.5 hours one way to Rottnest Island.

Some options for your next school excursion

Rottnest Island boasts a range of excellent snorkel sites for all weather conditions – from colonial era shipwrecks to amazing limestone sculptures and coral reefs, most of our regular sites are suitable for entry level swimmers and first time snorkellers.

We are also able to cater to any educational requirements the excursion may encompass – several of our crew have studied at university levels in fields such as Environmental Science & Education, Ecotourism and Marine Science and can help you tailor the tour to mix learning with fun.  Divemasters are also available for shore-based excursions on activities such as snorkel trips or to increase the student/teacher supervision ratio.

Come and watch the majestic humpback whales as they migrate down the Australian coastline each year between September and November. Capella has a whale interaction licence and is the perfect venue for taking out private school groups. Our salloon is equiped with a TV and makes the perfect floating classroom en-route as we journey off to see these majestic gentle giants frolick in the protected waters of Cockburn Sound.

Sailing is a unique experience whether you’re an experienced seadog or a first time enthusiast. We offer sail training aboard Capella as an excellent team building and problem solving activity as well as teaching navigation and seamanship skills.

Rottnest is home to a multitude of marine mammals and seabirds as well as providing a safe haven for many migratory species. Without noisy motors or generators Capella is able to sneak right into the middle of the action giving you an up close and personal experience. See dolphins, whales, seals, sealion and turtles in the water and ospreys, seaeagles and nesting muttonbirds on land.

Capella is a 12.5m luxury sailing catamaran designed and built in Western Australia and based in Rottnest Island. She is surveyed to take 38 passengers for day trips and sleep 10 passengers overnight with 2 queen and 3 double berths, full galley, 2 large fridges, 1 large esky/ice box, 2 toilets and 4 showers as well as ample safety gear including life jackets, life rafts, flares and a high speed tender.

She also boasts a large locker of ‘toys’ available free of charge to our passengers such as an inflatable island, stand-up paddle board, 2 x adult kayaks and plenty of snorkel gear. Capella has a lowerable ladder and transom, which means access into and out of the water is a breeze.

We are highly mobile and able to cater to your individual needs to enhance your and your student’s experience.  Contact us today to find out more.
