ABROLHOS ISLANDS
The Abrolhos Islands are an immensely diverse system of 122 islands spread over three groups and 100km’s of ocean. They lie 60km’s off the coast of Geraldton and are renowned for their stunning lagoons, unique fauna and sea life and offer spectacular diving and fishing as well as world-class surf. As the island are extremely remote and quite inaccessible the crowds are kept low and the ocean is alive and raw. The islands are also steeped in Dutch history, playing host to a catastrophic shipwreck in 1629 which left over 100 people stranded and led to 2 months of mayhem and murder. Many relics and ruins remain to this day such as several rock forts and the wreck of the Batavia.
